Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Guideline - ACCORD Study Response
The National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute has reported increased safety risks in the intensive glycemia subgroup (goal < 6.0% for Hgb A1C) of its ACCORD study. The ACCORD study is evaluating the effect of intensive treatment of glycemia, blood pressure and lipids for patients with type 2 diabetes with heart disease or two or more cardiovascular risk factors.
In response, ICSI's diabetes guideline work group is currently reviewing the available ACCORD study data and other available evidence to determine if or how they may impact ICSI's diabetes guideline. We will notify ICSI members of any changes in the guideline if they should result from this review.
