Guideline Work Group Facilitator

Responsibilities:
The primary role of this position is to manage the development and revision of a number of Institute for Clinical Systems Improvement (ICSI) health care guidelines, order sets and protocols. This position also serves as facilitator and provides other support for other ICSI committees, action groups and activities as assigned.

  1. Manages multidisciplinary workgroups responsible for developing and revising health care guidelines and order sets.
    • Effectively manages multiple workgroups and deadlines.
    • Collaborates with the physician leader of each workgroup to ensure that guidelines and order sets conform to ICSI standards with regard to format and timeliness and adequately address the concerns of all ICSI member organizations.
    • Facilitates group process by encouraging active participation of all workgroup members; includes training on ICSI guideline and order set development and revision processes, coaching, and conflict management.
    • Plans meeting agendas, prepares meeting materials, performs literature research, edits guideline, develops related materials, and gathers resources pertinent to the clinical topic.
    • Carefully check guidelines and order sets during revision and development for clarity, and placement in the proper section of the guidelines.
    • Coordinates the work group review of non-technical translations of guidelines designed for use by patients, their families, and/or caregivers.
    • Coordinates the timely development of a condensed version of each guideline for use in ICSI Pocket Guidelines and personal digital assistant devices (e.g., Palm Pilots).
  2. Provides other support to the guideline program.
    • Provides back up for other guideline work group facilitators when needed.
    • Facilitates guideline steering committees and records meeting minutes.
    • Assists Guideline Manager with the recruitment of physicians and other health care professionals for work groups.
    • Creates and updates resource materials and tools for work group members and facilitators, e.g., orientation and instruction manuals.
  3. Collaborates with other ICSI staff in the development and execution of ICSI’s health care improvement program by performing one or more of the following, as assigned:
    • Serving as facilitator or other staff support role to selected improvement collaboratives;
    • Delivering selected education and training courses;
    • Documenting accounts of selected medical group improvement initiatives;
    • Serving as primary clinical improvement resource to one or more member groups.
  4. Prepare and deliver presentations, publishable materials, and reports for various activities of ICSI.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree in health-related field required, preferably in nursing, health care administration, or public health
  • At least three years clinical experience, preferably in nursing
  • Strong project management skills
  • Analytical thinking skills
  • Demonstrated group process and group facilitation skills
  • Familiarity with CQI philosophy and tools
  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Ability to speak effectively in groups of 7-20 people

Involves communication with health care professionals in the independent health care organizations who are members in the ICSI collaborative.
