Sir Brian Jarman to present 2002 James
L. Reinertsen Lecture Professor Sir Brian Jarman started his career as an exploration geophysicist, changed to medicine, and became a general practitioner with a particular interest in serving deprived areas. He pioneered the development of socio-economic indicators of health status, creating what is known in the U.K. as the Jarman Index. He is Emeritus Professor at Imperial College School of Medicine, London, where he was Head of the Division of Primary Care and Populations Health Sciences and Head of the Department of Primary Health Care and General Practice. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, a Fellow of the Royal College of General Practitioners, and a member of the Faculty of Public Health Medicine. Professor Jarman is a frequent advisor to Britain's National Health Service and a member of the standing Medical Advisory Committee. During this past year, Professor Jarman has been a visiting fellow at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement in Boston. He will return to the U.K. this fall to take up his new role as head of the British Medical Association. The James L. Reinertsen Lecture series is an annual event for the health care community featuring a presentation by a distinguished professional speaking about clinical quality improvement. The evening will begin with a reception at 5:00 p.m. followed by the lecture at 6:00 p.m. There is no charge to attend but advance registration is requested.
