Perioperative
GUIDELINE SUMMARY
The ICSI Perioperative Guideline has been enhanced to include a new section – Perioperative Opioid Management – that was developed by a separate work group and reviewed and approved by the Perioperative Guideline work group. The new section addresses the entire continuum of Perioperative Opioid Management (preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative). The scope and target population is adults (18 years of age and older) undergoing elective surgery.
The Perioperative Guideline addresses and includes recommendations on the following topics:
Section 1: General Preoperative Management
- Preoperative Health Screening and Assessment
- Preoperative Testing (Electrocardiogram, Chest X-Ray, Hemoglobin/Hematocrit, Potassium/Sodium,Creatinine, Pregnancy, Hemostasis, and Glucose in Non-Diabetics)
- Obstructive Sleep Apnea
- Nicotine Cessation
- Preparation for Surgery
Section 2: Perioperative Management of Select Conditions
- Cardiovascular Diseases and Medications: Review of Select Recommendations from American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association Guidelines
- Prevention of Endocarditis: Endorsement of Recommendations from American College of Cardiology and American Heart Association Guidelines
- Anticoagulants/Antithrombotics
- Diabetes Mellitus
Section 3: Perioperative Opioid Management
