Program description
The ICSI program includes the
following components:
Scientific groundwork for health care
Health care guidelines
Clinicians from member medical groups survey scientific literature
and draft health care guidelines based on the best available
evidence. These guidelines are subjected to an intensive review
process that involves physicians and other health care professionals
from ICSI's participating medical groups before they are made
available for general use. More than 45 guidelines for the prevention
or treatment of specific health conditions have been developed
and are updated annually.
Technology assessment reports
Representatives from member medical groups have developed and
continually review almost 50 technology assessment reports, providing
clinicians with scientific appraisals of emerging and leading
edge medical technology.
Clinical improvement commitment &
support
Each member medical group chooses four or more ICSI guidelines
for intensive improvement effort annually. The medical groups
develop their own goals and progress measures and share the results
of their work with one another. ICSI organizes action groups
for selected clinical topics in which there is significant interest,
such as diabetes, preventive services, asthma, and cardiovascular
disease. Other support provided by ICSI to its members includes
education, training, and coaching.
Advocacy for health care quality
An active advocate for more consistent and better health care,
ICSI is an objective voice in discussions about health care and
quality of care.
