Patients are complex. What motivates one, doesn’t motivate another. Sometimes it feels that the right health choices are right in front of them, but they just can’t seem to move forward. How can you help them?
Motivational interviewing is patient-centered, and utilizes a guiding style to engage with patients to clarify their strengths and hopes, evoke their motivation for change and promote autonomy in decision-making.
This two-part ICSI workshop format provides a deeper learning opportunity to allow practice in between sessions, returning to build on new insights. The teachings will include a mix of didactic presentation, videos and hands-on practice. Handouts are provided so attendees can leave with practical tools for future review and ongoing practice.
- Understand context for meaningful behavior change
- Learn foundational motivational interviewing skills
- Practice using real life situations and common encounters
- Identify strategies to listen for, elicit and promote change talk
